For years, the 30th day of July has been set aside to celebrate the day of friendship.
A few countries celebrate this on the first Sunday of August.
One of these countries that celebrate in August is me, yeah… Me.
I celebrate it in August because I love August…it’s the month of my birth.
Friendship; a mutual feeling/affection between two people.
I wasn’t brought up to accept friendship. My mum must have been dealt a hard blow by a friend or something because she would always remind me and my siblings that we didn’t have friends…
My mom made sure I knew that a friend was separate from a classmate, a neighbor, a colleague and all.
A friend was a friend.
I managed to figure it out over the years… I have made some good friends.
My sisters… Dough, Angela, Msugh…anr my other “sisters”… Gosha, Gyen, Ngodoo.
Cousins… Su, Henry.
Friends from childhood that have spanned three decades and more… Dooyash, Enach, Dudu, Vivian, Rosemary.
Friends from boarding school that stayed with me… Uzoma, Oyidu, Rikye, Pasen.
A friend from University that became a sister… Ronnie.
A neighbour that became a friend…Orako
Friends I’ve made in the course of life…Helen, Nguwa, Aves.
A couple of nights ago, my sisters and I had a sleepover…we hardly did the sleeping part though.
We all had our children with us so it was a loud and fun night.
We talked from one topic to another and somehow we found ourselves at Affirmations and positive thinking.
Angela shared testimonies how repeating affirmations had brought a lot of beautiful things her way.
I made mental notes from her stories and thought about a few affirmations I could work with.
I had done a sketch guide for myself at the beginning of July…it kind of went just like I declared. July was pretty amazing.
Somewhere mid sleepover, I tuned into the Elevation Church worship experience of the day and there he was…the pastor, saying almost the exact same things we had been talking about…and with scripture to back it up.
That wasn’t some recorded sermon from weeks or months or even days ago…it was the same day.
Coincidence?
I think not.
I strongly believe God sent a message and He is trying to confirm it
If you could bring back one dinosaur, which one would it be?
I love period dramas and romcoms, I love country music, I love beans…
Not everyone likes or understands why I like these things…but I guess it’s different strokes…
I have never been fascinated about dinosaurs. I have never understood people’s fascination about them either.
I would never willingly pick out a dinosaur movie…but I know a number of people who would.
One of them is paleontologist Ross Geller, my second favourite character from the sitcom Friends.
If I could bring back one dinosaur, I would bring it back only because Ross wants it and I would let him pick which one he wants back… I learnt it’s the Mezesoic Mastodon.
Steven Furtick is an American pastor. He has been the pastor of Elevation Church for 17 Years . Even though I am thousands of kilometres away from North Carolina, I call his church Home. What draws me to him is his ability to admit that he is human and fallible.
If I had 60 minutes with Steven Furtick…
I’d spend 5 minutes saying hello, asking about his wife Holly and the kids… Elijah, Graham and Abby.
As soon as that was done with, I would take 5 minutes to ask him about how he was able to throw in pop culture references and still get me to see that it is by Jesus alone…
I would take 5 minutes to talk about Television and film. He’s got some amazing recommendations. He probably doesn’t know I or anyone noted them.
I would take another 5 to try to squeeze a conversation about music… I doubt it would do but I would manage.
Then… I would ask him to spend 20 mins with me on his favourite sermon ever… I would hope he’d say it was ‘Yes You’.
I’d take 5 minutes for a bit of that parenting series he refuses to do.
For 10 minutes, I would let him talk to me from his heart.
We would take 4 minutes to pray together…
And in the last minute I would ask if I could get another 60 minutes with him.
And if he said yes, I’d like John Malone, Msugh and Su’eddie to be with me…
It is very unusual of me to be up at 7am on a Saturday morning. I usually sleep in till 9am. Saturdays are the only days that I can enjoy that luxury.
On Monday to Friday I am usually out of the house before 7:30am…and even though Sunday mornings are presumably easy, it’s not as easy as my Saturdays.
Ever since flowers began to show up this year, I have found myself admiring a lot of the wild ones I usually see on my way out in the mornings. Wild flowers are one of the reasons I long for my Nigerian spring.
Last Monday I decided that I would take a walk on Saturday to pick a few…and that’s why I was up at 7am.
I woke my son up to join me for the walk… He didn’t think he would like it. So I went alone.
It was a beautiful walk. I found different kind. A few looked like crocuses. They were everywhere and in different colours.
When I was done picking, I walked back quickly to put a bouquet together. I loved the outcome.
I’m sitting in my living room, looking at my bouquet and enjoying a cup of coffee while I write.
Oh…my son thinks I should have made him go for that walk. We have a date for next Saturday.
My sister wrote a letter to us today on our family whatsapp group. I asked her if I could share and she replied “definitely sis”.
Here goes:
Dear OBF Today June 19th is World Sickle Cell Day!! Celebrating warriors like Sever and remembering those who are no longer with us; Ernie, Joe and Hembasoon.
In creating awareness on this day, I pray that my Sever (since we have 3 Sever's in the family 😃) will be the last to have this challenge... do we have any others?... please let us know. I remember Soon T once posted on Facebook that she wouldn't wish this life on anyone, not even an enemy and she would come with a cane to beat up anyone who decides to get married without testing or going ahead even after testing and discovering that your genotypes don't match. I stand with her still.
So please dear family, test well 3 times and with different RELIABLE labs/hospitals. Meanwhile it's not a death sentence, you know now, Soon T showed us that life is for living. ❤️💃🥂
