I remember when my sister’s son was down and couldn’t walk for over a year. It seemed like forever.
We hoped, we prayed and we waited.
I remember the day I sent ‘God of Midnight’ to her. I had just listened to it on that evening and all I kept feeling was how that song was a message for Msugh my sister.
I believed her son Sever would walk. What scared me was whether I would be strong while I waited. I wondered… Then I found the song ‘Wait On You’. It was just what we needed.
Msugh and I would often talk about the parts of the song that encouraged us.
The day came, Sever walked… To the Glory of God.
I remember the first time I listened to ‘wait on you’ after he started to walk again. I broke into tears when I realised I was on the other side of the song.
… The part where we had waited and He had shown Himself true.
I never imagined what it would be like… Maybe I had been afraid to imagine… Afraid that if I imagined and he didn’t walk then I would be disappointed.
That’s the thing about waiting, the part where doubt creeps in every now and again.
Waiting can be hard…but receiving at the end of the wait is totally worth it
I’ll always wait on the Lord.

Prayer means talking to God. This is the simplest of definitions we all get taught right from children’s church from an early age…but I fear that we have mystified and complicated prayer so much that it has been interpreted as hard and tedious.
Prayer is not meant to be rigid.
For a person who finds it difficult getting up very early, I often have a difficult time doing a thorough word study or spending quality time with God before I leave the house.
The thing is, on week days, I am usually out of the house by 7am for school run and by the time I’m done with that, I usually find myself in the parking lot of my office with some extra 20 to 30 minutes to spare before the start of work or before the first humans begin to show up at work.
That’s where I make my sanctuary. In my car. I use this time to spend time with God, I tell Him everything and I listen to hear from him.
And He hears me. He hasn’t failed me. Not ever.
Prayer time is not meant to be bondage. It is a time to be free with your Father and your Friend. Take the opportunity anytime, anywhere. Speak and listen. He is Shekhinah.
Scriptural guide:

One night, long after my son and I had said good night, I was all tucked up and ready for my movie for the night when he walked into my room. He asked if he could sleep in my bed. I said yes, but I also asked why. He told me he was afraid because of a story he had overheard me and some ladies discussing; about an incident that had gone viral on the blue app. I remembered immediately. I had been a bit shaken by that story myself.
He stayed with me and while he slept, I started to replay the discussion and I began to get upset with myself. I advised myself; I said I would cut down on my social media time because he is almost always with me. I started gradually, it was difficult in the beginning, but after a while it became easier.
Social media has proven to be a very important tool and medium for many of us. It has helped some of us reconnect and connect with school mates, family members, old and new friends and more. Social media has also helped many businesses and individuals move from zero to hero. It has also given a good number of people the opportunity to be heard.
In the same way that social media has helped many, it has also done a bit of harm to some.
Unfortunately, as we all know, bad is stronger than good. Bad has a way of swallowing the good and making it disappear. To prevent this with our social media activity, we must find a balance. It is not news that a balance in anything that we do is the key to a productive life.
If you have a healthy social media activity level and it does not affect your life in any negative way then you may have absolutely nothing to worry about. However, if at some point you feel that your social media time is affecting other areas of your life and encroaching into your productive time, preventing you from spending quality time with friends, family or in prayer, making you to feel sad or depressed because of negative news feeds or cyber bullying or making you feel less of yourself or if it simply just makes you sit and scroll for hours and do nothing then you may need to take a few measures to stop or control these negative effects.
One way to go about this is through a fast. Yes, you read me right. We generally know fasting is abstention from food and drink. Fasting has many other definitions but for the purpose of this piece, I will define fasting as a period of giving up food, drink and any other thing that could distract you and prevent you from focusing your thoughts on God and your spiritual growth for the period. This is a religious definition.
I have outlined a few steps and I believe that if you desire to cut back on social media or take a little break every now and again, these steps may be helpful to you.
Just like any other thing we abstain from, it is likely that when we return to it, we may try to cover up for all the time we missed it. This then negates the entire purpose for which we started in the first place. The thing to always keep in mind is the reason we started in the first place.
Purpose is the watch word.
I would be a liar to say no music album has ever engrossed me as much as the new Elevation Worship album ‘LION’ has. If I may be totally honest, I would say that the previous album, ‘Old Church Basement’ totally rocked and it redefined my personal relationship with Jesus… That’s a tale for another day…but I’ve just got to say, I’m totally hooked on this LION album.
LION is a message, it’s like a series of sermons, each one with its own different tune. Every song finds a way to minister to a specific situation. Genre wise, LION has a song for everyone…if you ask me, that’s what makes it amazing. You would think a particular genre doesn’t appeal to you, yet every song in LION appeals to almost everyone. It’s like putting one song or more from John Legend, Daughtry, Hugh Masekela and Guns N Roses in one album.
‘Bye Bye Babylon’ reminds and consoles me that it won’t be too long anymore, the pain and suffering of this world will come to an end and we will be home with our father.
‘What I see’ is such a bubbly Easter song.
‘Same God’ is so beautiful, it carries so much submission and vulnerability in it and ‘The One You Love’ is such a beautiful love song…although, ‘Dancing’ is also a beautiful love song. I might say ‘Why’ also sits among the love songs.
For those of us who don’t mind a little wild and unconventional, there is something for us. There’s: ‘Water is wild’, ‘LION’ and ‘Might get loud’.

‘This is the Kingdom’ is another beautiful one. The entire song lists the beatitudes just as they appear in Matthew 5:1-12.

As an African, I loved and wore out ‘No one’. It’s african and upbeat style is so beautiful and it sure does keep me moving during workouts.
Other beautiful songs in this album include ‘Welcome Resurrection’, ‘Forever YHWH’ and ‘You Really Are’. I would recommend this album any and everyday.

Often in life, we find ourselves trying really hard to prove to the people in our lives that we love them. Many times they do not even ask for this proof. Some of us go ahead to show and prove with acts of kindness/service, words of affirmation, gifts and so on. Some, if not most times, these methods go unnoticed and/or unappreciated. One can only imagine the disappointment that comes with it.

For some time now, I’ve been on an emotional joy ride. Just the other day, I shared with an egroup how I used to think that God liked me…but it only recently really hit me… He really really loves me. He loves me in a way that is so amazing, I don’t need to pull out any love language.
I have a piece I’ve been writing on the elevation worship current album ‘LION’. I should have it ready in a few days. One song from that album had me reexamine my entire relationship with my maker.
I didn’t choose God, God chose me. There’s nothing I can do that would make Him hate me. Every day I wake up with breath in my lungs, it’s evidence that He has chosen me again. He loves me. He loves me. I don’t need to prove that I love Him for him to love me. His love never fails. He loves the real me, not the version I show to people.
This realisation is amazing. It changed my life.
I would recommend this song any day, not only does it sound nice, it feels good too.
