Angels Don’t always have wings

Tracy Chapman – Heaven’s here on Earth

When my son prays, especially during bedtime prayers, he often asks God to bless every good person in our lives.

I think good people really need that; people who pray for them.

I needed to know what his idea of ‘good person’ was and so I asked him. SonTer told me that to him, a good person is someone who always helps others.

I think good people are Angels on earth. People who are there for us when we need them, especially in the most unexpected times and places. Good people are big on empathy and kindness.

It’s the reason I am a huge lover of random acts of kindness. It meets the receiver in an unexpected and beautiful place.

Even before I heard Thomas Rhett say it in his song ‘Angels’, I’ve always agreed with myself and known deep down that Angels don’t always have wings and halos.

I’ve met a few Angels of my own but I also hope I’ve been one to someone or to as many who needed me.

May we all meet Angels as we go about our way and may we be same to others.

Rarity

I’m quite thrilled when I find people with certain character traits that are quite rare. Traits even I still try to attain and/or develop.

In our current “busy” world filled with impatient people, it gives me much joy to find patient and kind people. When I do, it feels like I hit gold.

I went on a 7 day trip with my mom and son to see my dad…he lives and works four hours away, the same town where my sisters live.

It was a short vacation and a chance to be with family.

We were introduced to a young man. He was going to be available to help drive us around town…especially my mom.

He isn’t a driver by profession…he was going to do this voluntarily.

I really didn’t need him, I had actually planned to get by on my own…but somehow, he made needing him quite easy.

Yawe…that’s his name.

He was polite, kind and patient.

He was smart and good with positive and productive suggestions.

He was good with my son too.

I know I am not the most patient person in the world so his patience was a big deal to me.

He was patient with my mom even when my sisters and I seemed to be weary with her at some point.

I am drawn to acts of kindness and he threw it around without hesitation.

He made our stay easy. I hope I meet more Yawes in the world and I pray I can be a Yawe for others too.

Pensive

My husband walked into the kitchen as I peeled potatoes this morning… “why the serious face?” he asked.

I pointed to my phone and he bent and read something I had just paused to type in my notes;

When you find your voice, be patient with those who have not.

I had been pondering on how we suddenly become impatient with people the moment we find “the truth” or “Our Voice” . We begin to pressure others to join us in this newness. We tend to forget that it took us a while to get there ourselves.

I think we all reach these levels of newness in different periods/areas in our lives.
Sometimes we are able to because we really desire to. Sometimes it is because of our preexisting beliefs or even our temperaments.

If you are bold and confrontational for instance, you will have no issues with learning to speak up every/anytime, especially in dicey situations, even when it seems like you are not expected to.

If however you are like me, reserved with a phobia for confrontation, that may be the last option that will come to mind; speaking up in a dicey situation.

I feel it’s quite insensitive to be inpatient with others who have not found their voices or their guts.

The truth is, they may never find it… Not because they don’t want to or that they cannot… Some things aren’t always as plain as they seem.

I will like to steal from Su’eddie what I just learned from what he learned from our Uncle Charles;

We may all need to key into our emotional intelligence and also be understanding and patient.

Everything, Everywhere, All At Once

Everyone is talking about the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once so I decided to give it a shot.

I am pretty sure there will be a many interpretations and explanations to the movie. I think it was made to be so. It’s the kind of movie where everyone relates to differently.

First, to understand this movie, I believe you must be a person who is able to be free and honest with his/her self and also open to feeling emotions. Without these, you may just entertain yourself with a two hour action-science fiction and miss out the mental lessons.

The movie is meant to bring out the thinker, feeler and evaluator in you.

We see Evelyn in different universes and how life is for her in each of them. No matter which universe we see her in, one thing remains lacking; compassionate love. This is clearly because of her own pain and suffering from regrets of life.

As expected, the people who get to feel more hurt by her own pain and hurt are the closest people to her; her husband and daughter.

The main message of the movie lies in the end; we must let go of our pain and try to show compassion, love and kindness. It is the only way we can win in this journey called life.

There is so much more to the story and I recommend that you give it a try.

At the end of the movie, all I kept thinking about was Romans 12:21 – Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

It’s amazing how this verse just keeps sneaking up on me every time, everywhere. I think I better listen up.
