A cow is always in waiting to be used for so many things by everyone, reasons like labour, meat, milk, cheese, butter, yoghurt just name it.
My Father has been on my mind a lot lately though I had this written down a while ago and this description of the uses of a cow seems to describe how people think of my him.
To me this cow is my father with memories, experiences good and bad, he’s not my cow.
He is my Dad, just Daddy
I read this post by Msugh again and I responded to the need to share.
I started Gilmore Girls again sometime last year and finally rounded it up with the last production titled ‘Gilmore Girls: Life in a Year’. It caught us up with what had been going on in everyone’s life since we last saw them. The show was broken down into four parts; winter, spring, summer and Fall.
I decided to steal the title and tell mine in months.
Plus, one of my readers thought it would be “fun and a good series” and I agreed and loved the idea.
So here’s what February looked like:
A month full ofBirthdays
February was good, my dad turned 79 on the 4th, my mum followed on the 12th as she clocked 78 years old.
My husband had a birthday too on the 26th and My sister Angie continued her 50s journey on the 9th. Ngodoo, my cousin marked hers on the 22nd.
Other activities:
I continued to grow my tree on the Glorify Bible app. I also carried with me Isaiah 30:21.
I finally finished the book ‘The things we leave Unfinished’ and I was shocked with the twist at the end.
SonTer’s dog had puppies last month, but I was only able to photograph them this month so I featured them in the month of February.
I travelled for work for a few days in the same city I had served as a Youth Corp member and I realized that coincidentally, it was the first time I had lived alone back then in 2007 and this was the first time I would be away from home alone again. 18 years later.
I won a Bluetooth speaker and mini printer from Temu, I received a commendation letter at work and I sat on a panel and we discussed ‘The Art of The Heart’ at the Benue Book & Arts Festival organized by Su’eddie Agema.
I was able to surprise a friend with some gifts and she reciprocated with more than I could have even imagined. I am grateful to my sister Dough who served as our courier to Kenya and back to Nigeria.
I visited Mrs. Yawe, a teacher from my nursery and primary school.
I enjoyed a study with my egroup titled ‘Good Company’. I think I will share this gist in another piece.
I celebrated with my immediate older sister Msugh, she’s making a new turn in her life’s journey and I’m so excited.
I started my final exams for my Post Graduate Diploma and to my great joy, I wasn’t as nervous as I was in the previous semester.
When I was 8 years old, a very good friend gave me a T-shirt she had brought from her Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem. It read;”My very good friend went to Jerusalem and all she got for me was this lousy tee-shirt”.
I felt really special. I thought she had had it inscribed like that just for me. I would learn years later that it wasn’t so. That didn’t change how much I valued the tee though.
I love it when someone goes away and remembers to bring me something… anything. It let’s me know I was in their thoughts at some point on the trip.
My very fantastic sister took a trip to Kenya and I’m glad she got me some good Kenyan tea and a kimono
I flaunt it today and I say thank you.
Cup contains well brewed Kenyan tea laced with some fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Kanga is a traditional Kenyan cloth. It’s usually rectangular and the dimensions vary, but often always is 150cm by 110cm.
The Kanga is used in different ways and this is a matter of choice. Some use it as a scarf, others as a wrap around the shoulders and/or shawl. Some people use it as a tie cloth like a skirt.
The common thing about the Kanga is the inscription or quote that always comes with it. This is referred to as ‘Jina’. The Jina is often a riddle, proverb or any other kind of message.
Some people have used the Kanga as a means of passing messages (Political, traditional or religious).
I got my first Kanga today as a gift from a friend who lives in Nairobi, so I decided to find out what it was.
The write up on my Kanga reads; TUWE NA HAIBA TUPENSEZE DAIMA.
I checked a translation online and it tells me to always be charming and Believe. I hope it translates right.
On the 16th day of January I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw a stationery I liked. It was advertised for sale, I clicked and I found myself on the Temu marketplace. I was really reluctant but I wanted to get that item so I went ahead and signed on. I ended up buying several other pens and stickers.
Thereafter I was invited to pick two items for free. I did. We know what followed next. I was instructed to share the app with as many people to earn points to receive my gift.
I always back out of such things. But I don’t know why, this one felt different. And so I went ahead. I almost got discouraged along the way. Many people responded the same way I would have. They said things like “they won’t give it to you”, ‘they just want to use you to promote their site” and so on. I didn’t blame them, I would have said the same things too…but like I said, this one was different. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but I believed I would.
Thanks to some people who clicked and signed on to Temu via my link, I got lucky. I was given the gift.
I tracked every movement. I woke up everyday and checked to see where it was and where it was headed next.
Today, I’m super excited. My mini printer, Bluetooth speaker and 2 mics have arrived.
In my closing remarks at the end of the year 2024, I noted how I had been unable to do much writing. I feel a bit sad as I sit to write this now because I am still unable to make time to be with myself to think and write. As a result of this lack of time, I’m beginning to leave so many things unsaid…things I feel I need to put out there for someone…anyone.
I had planned to drop little reminders daily, anywhere, everywhere and to whomever would listen/read, about a different way to go about Valentine’s Day this year. I am not against Valentine’s Day and I love how one day is set aside to celebrate and show love…but… I feel that the remaining 364 days could and should be used too. I’ve seen in several relationships, where besides the 14th day of February, some people never express their love to loved ones.
Relationships should be nutured and it’s love expressed more frequently than once or twice a year. I think we should be more intentional about our relationships, whether parent and child, sibling, spouse or friend.
I was going to challenge myself to consciously celebrate love one day every month… I still am…I just haven’t decided how to go about it yet.
As I figure out how to stretch the spirit of St. Valentine’s Day till the end of the year, I decided also that for this Valentine’s day, I will show love and appreciation to a teacher from my primary school. She deserves to be loved and I am glad and excited about it.
What are you doing this Valentine’s day? How are you expressing your love to loved ones?
I’ve always found myself on Pinterest at the start of almost every novel, looking for aesthetics for the novel. I love to read with pre-provided images to add to mine.
A few months ago, I saw a meme that said “your last 6 photos are your life aesthetics. I actually tried it… Weirdest combination of photos you will ever see. I literally laughed so hard.
I decided at the start of the year 2025 that I would create a monthly aesthetic photo for myself. I want to see what I lived when it passes.
Here’s the one for January 2025
I’ve had a marvelous month.
I spent the 1st day with close friends at a church thanksgiving service. I spent a little more time with my son ‘SonTer’ and then he went back to school.
I’ve been watching Gilmore girls the entire month.
I started a book; ‘The things we leave unfinished’ but I have been unable to finish up for many reasons, my office job being one of the biggest reasons.
I planted a seed on the GLORIFY app and it’s growing into a pretty plant.
I’ve enjoyed good music but Brandon Lake has been my top artist. It’s one of the reasons I loved the debut of sons of Sunday with ‘God Did’.
I marked 12 years on WordPress. Yaaaay.
Elevation church was an amazing factor in the month with a new study ‘good company’ running from the last week of January into all of February.
My egroup sisters (therefore I hope) and I made a bold decision. I hope we live up to it.
I’ve enjoyed good moments with Terver, my husband and I’m looking forward to better ones in February… His birth month.
One of my bake shop “family members” had twin girls on the 30th of January. I was ecstatic.
I had good doses of coffee, I lived, I laughed and I loved.
There were so many amazing things in January and I’m thankful for them all.
I get home from work at 6pm. I decide to catch up on Gilmore Girls. I begin to feel sleepy. I spend two hours, going in and out of sleep. I am unable to get up. My back hurts, my brain is asleep. I let my thoughts wander off. I realize I have a school project to start and I have just a week to complete it. The thought makes me weaker.
My thoughts wander some more… I think of Beth, Dave, Derrick, John…these wise ones I read from when I want to feel good. And so I head to WordPress and do some catching up on ther blogs. I begin to feel better.
Turns out, it’s John’s birthday today. Happy birthday John Malone.
I begin to think of dinner, I’m about to make myself get up to make some. My phone rings. Goodness, one of the reasons I’m this tired is calling. A call from work. I don’t take the call. It’s not working hours. They need to learn this. I need to make them.
I have let the call upset me. I’m getting up now to find something to do, to undo this feeling.
…then I get a notification from WordPress…
Happy 12th anniversary it says.
So I decide to write this, and I feel a bit better.
Maybe if I add pasta and fish to it I will be just fine.
I went away from my home for two days to rest and organize my head and my books and journals. I wanted to be physically and mentally ready for when I resumed work on Monday the 6th day of January 2025.
I spent too much of the time resting, sleeping, looking through my phone and eating. It suddenly dawned on me that my time there would be ending pretty soon, so I buckled up and went to sit at the desk where all of my things had been scattered from my previous attempt to organize and write something.
I sat at the desk at 8:30pm and by 9:25pm I had sorted my to do list for the week, organized my journals and labeled them. I decided to check and use some journaling videos I had saved on Pinterest and so I picked up my phone to check them out. Just as I picked the phone up, I saw a notification from google photos about some memories from five years ago. I spent at least six or seven minutes there, smiling at every memory and even taking the time to share some of them the people who were in them.
As I tried to navigate out of WhatsApp, where I had shared some of these memories, I saw some messages on our family group, so I decided to check them out. There were a number of messages, but one caught me, my brother shared that he had just lost a friend and he mentioned the name. the name seemed familiar and so I went to Facebook, to check if he was someone I knew.
I opened my Facebook application and I saw a video I liked about the challenges of Nigerian businesses caused by horrible power supply. One video led to another, and another. Next thing I know, I’m looking at Facebook stories. How did i get there? Somehow, I was able to get myself to snap out of it. Just as I left the app, I remembered why I went there in the first place… I didn’t go back.
I went to Pinterest, just as I had previously intended, my main reason for picking up my phone in the first place. Immediately I got in, I saw a Gilmore girls aesthetic photo and I clicked…next thing I know, it’s twenty minutes later and I am looking at different ways to make paper flowers. I don’t know how that happened but I do know one thing, the distraction that comes with a mobile phone in hand is second to none.
