Tables and mirrors

No one knew I was there.

I had arrived too early and so I reclined my seat and tried to meditate. I couldn’t.

So I let my thoughts wander.

Then I heard them, first the voices of the people and their feet…and then the sound of the engine as the car stopped…right behind mine.

I looked up at my rear view mirror and there it was, everything I could hear was available in pictures. It was like I was viewing a movie…made for me alone.

I watched in awe.

Like puppets, they bowed and sang his praises.

Just a few months ago, he walked these same streets and no one even said a hello to him.

Today…different story… The tables turned.

What can I say? The oracle picked him.

Once is enough

“I make that one copy and I end up being that girl that makes copies…and the worst thing is, I like making copies”…

…This was Pam trying to make sure she wasn’t tagged a copier girl in the new company. After all, she had asked to be in sales.

I’ve told myself a hundred times…I’m such a Pam Beesly.

It’s sad being a Pam Beesly when the  world thinks kindness is foolishness and/or stupidity.

I don’t believe that though…That’s what’s important

Roses and thorns

After successfully sketching The cup , I had a thought to share and decided to sketch the image of the thought myself.

My artist friend, Terwase loved it and decided to draw and send a professional version of the piece to me.

I loved it. It was a better expression of my thoughts.

She also found an old version she had sketched some time ago.

Lost day

I’ve learned to love the alone time that I get on some Mondays and Fridays between 4pm and 5pm.

On those days, I usually pick my son up from school around 5:10pm…and so, when most of my colleagues leave at the close of work (4pm), I sit back and enjoy the quiet. Sometimes I head to Netflix and sometimes I read…but most times I draft stuff in my notebook or WordPress.

Yesterday I just couldn’t wait. I had arranged my new notebook and my pens on my desk and just when my colleagues began to pack up and leave, my phone rang.

It was my son’s school. A million things ran through my mind in a second. I have a bad habit of imagining the worst first before calling myself to order.

I picked up. It was the Administrative Officer…she’s also a friend. We exchanged pleasantries and then she said “SonTer is still in school”.

I wondered what she meant by that.

“Yeah, it’s Monday” I said.

“Nope, it’s Tuesday”.

That’s when it hit me.

It was really Tuesday.

There had been a national holiday on Monday and we had stayed home. Stepping out on Tuesday morning actually felt like Monday…

I drove like a maniac, sweating all over. School had closed since 1:40pm.

I got to his school and ran to him, I hugged him and didn’t want to let go.

What he said next made me smile; “Mommy, I know you thought today was Monday, right? I did too, I even packed my books for Monday classes too”.

This boy just warms my heart.

He told me he was very hungry and I told him I had that covered. We went and got him his favorite chicken burger and all became well with the world.

Prepare me Lord

A couple of weeks ago I saw a video that my childhood friend posted on Instagram.

I immediately began to sob.

I knew I had just one year to go through what she was going through.

It was a video of her son, walking away…into his new school (boarding school). He would be gone till December.

Accompanying the video was a little note; ” Wow, I wasn’t prepared enough for this emotionally. Life truly is in phases. My not so lil Dee Boi🥰🥰. I love you my child and I pray to God Almighty to shield, protect and shape you into greatness”.

Next September I will have to watch my boy walk away too.

God I need you to prepare me.

I can’t do it alone.

Treasure

I’ve always kept a notebook.

For journaling.

I believe life is too beautiful to go through without notes.

Every now and again, I go over my life notes.

Today, I dusted out one of my first major note books.

This one has gone everywhere with me since 13th July 2001.

22 years.

We’ve travelled together… Lived in 3 cites.

I just found some amazing stuff…

…tucked in these pages.

I have laughed and I have cried.

I’ve learned a lot about myself.

So many eye openers… lot’s of explanations.

Tales to share…

Decided

I know how to make it stop.

I could make it stop.

I want to make it stop.

It will only mean that I take 10 steps back… from the progress I’ve made… from the person I’ve become.

Am I willing…to ruin all the growth my heart has known?

…the inner peace that I feel.

I’m only being selfish here…looking out for myself.

I love the feeling… Knowing that I chose me.

I could make it stop…

…but I won’t.

Celebrating

Some years ago, I got my first male student at my bakery; Kator… He was very young and innocent.

He found himself in the midst of at least 10 ladies…

The mother in me became very protective and before long, everyone called him my son…even his own mother.

My son also called him ‘brother’; A couple of years ago he baked a surprise birthday cake by himself for Kator from start to finish.

One afternoon, I asked Sonter to go and get Kator for me and I over heard him say;

“My mom says you should come inside”

“Ah, Sonter, you always say our mom. Why the switch to ‘my mom’ today?” Kator asked.

Weeks after that conversation I found out Kator had upset him…

…and the pattern continued.

‘Our’ became ‘my’ whenever he wasn’t happy with him.

I didn’t stop him, I only told him he couldn’t go on in life that way…cutting people off just because you were upset with them. This year, SonTer sketched an image of Kator for his birthday.

I digress…

We’ve not seen much of him lately because he got into school for his MBBS.

This year, Kator sent me the most touching birthday message anyone has ever sent to me…ever.

His words to himself today also encouraged me; https://lyricsscribbles.wordpress.com/2023/09/12/chapter-twenty-two22/

I feel so blessed to call him son.

Happy birthday to him.
