Shush

Everyday… every minute. Scrolling. What’s the content?

Is my soul quiet?.

Can I hear a still small voice?

Did I miss it?

Was it too quiet? Or was I not paying attention? Scrolling… Dark Blue app, Light Blue app, Pink app… App… App… App

Oh my soul, be quiet. I missed the whisper before.

I don’t want to miss it anymore.

God help my soul.

Feelings

It’s really okay to feel.

Feeling allows us to be human.

We often avoid feeling sadness, anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy and a few other feelings.

During a particular down period in my life, feeling my feelings allowed me to heal. While I felt my feelings, I began to be honest with myself about the reason for my feelings.

In a movie i just saw, I heard the words again; feel your feelings, they were spoken to Teri Hatcher by her friend. Teri plays a 50 year old recently (2 years) divorced woman who thinks she may be going through a mid life crisis. She begins to feel somewhat better when she allows herself to feel her feelings.

Are you feeling down and sad? Don’t deny your feelings. Feel your feelings. You may feel better.

I would like to recommend something else that helped a great deal during my down time. It was the album Feelings by Chandler Moore.

Re: How to Overcome Sadness

I read a blog post tittled How to Overcome Sadness by New Lune and in the comments, I told her I would write a response to the blog soon.

She mentioned 3 key ways she thought could be helpful when trying to overcome sadness. My response is focused on the first one; Pouring Everthing Out.

She said:

“I think it’s important to let everything out when you feel sad about a situation, a person or about something in general. The more you suppress those emotions, the harsher it will take a toll on yourself and when keeping those emotions down becomes a struggle, everything will break down in a harsh way which is technically not ideal because it will drain yourself out. By pouring everything out whether it’s through crying or speaking out, you will feel some weight off your shoulders”.

I totally relate to this. I recently had a situation where my reaction to something my husband did was very intense and didn’t match the current offense. After weeks of back and forth anger and bitterness, I found the key. It turned out that I had suppressed so many feelings and emotions and just like she said, everything broke down in a harsh way and it did drain me out.

I had already taken a few decisions on the way forward and then I ran into her blog post. I think a combination of the two will do me well, if I really work with it.

Thank you again New Lune.

Idolatry

I heard Dante Bowe sing the words to a song and I got confused. The words sounded so familiar to me. Words I had heard and read in romance movies between lovers. Words I had used my self to express my need to please a fellow human like myslef. I must confess that I had never really spoken those words to my God.

  • Tell me what what moves you?
  • You are my treasure.
  • No matter how much the cost.
  • You are the only thing that matters.
  • I live to please you.

We say these words so easily to people and things; our phones, self, friends, spouses, parents and children.

The word idolatry has been defined from the stories in the old testaments, especially from Deuteronomy where it explicitly states that “You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything………”.

Over the years, our idols have changed from carved lifeless images to every day people and things. We commit idolatry when we make anything more important than our God. I found myself guilty of idolatry through the song. I repented and I am depending on a friend like no other, Jesus, to see me through.

Is there anything more important than God in your life?

Why do people cry?

I have never pondered on my tears with this question but recently, on my 40th birthday, I got so many questions as to why I cried so much that I started to wonder. Why do people cry? I really want to know.

I started to cry from the moment my furniture guy walked into my house that morning with an entry-way furniture I had shown him almost 2 years ago. I had shown it to him and made plans to make it for myself but somehow I never went through with the order. I guess I could say that I cried because I realised someone could be thoughtful enough to remember exactly what I wanted.

I had one person ask me if I cried because I was remembering some old stuff. I am still not sure what the question means. Someone else asked if I felt I wasn’t worth all the love I was getting. I thought about that for a bit and I said ‘No’. I deserve every love I get and even more.

Then why did I cry? I am still trying to figure that out but I think I cry because I am a really emotional person and emotional tears come from strong emotions. If I feel appreciated and loved, if I am extremely happy, if I am deeply sad, if I feel misunderstood or any other emotional feeling, you are going to bet that I will get teary eyed. Maybe I will cry.

Someone asked me if I cried about everything. I didn’t have to ponder on this one, I know the one thing I don’t cry over. I don’t cry when I feel a physical pain. I still don’t know why.

Some people cry more than others and we don’t know why, there have been a few guesses that involve a few biology lessons.

I don’t know why people cry but I guess I know why I do.
