I saw When Harry Met Sally again, for the third time….after ten years, and it felt like I was seeing it for the first time. Something about it hit differently this time. Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s experience… but I loved how it took years, and yet they still found a way to each other. They were meant for each other. They understood each other. They were comfortable with and around each other.
It reminded me of some friendships I’ve had… the kind where you can be yourself without trying, where the conversations are unfiltered and the silences are never awkward. I loved how open Harry and Sally were with each other; that honesty, that ease, that comfort that only time and genuine care can build.
Watching it now felt like catching up with old friends. I love the movie, not just for the romance, but for how it celebrates friendship, timing, and the quiet magic of people who just get each other.
Yesterday's movie review got me remembering this post from 2022.
When I was about 19 years old, my “cousin” Gosha, in a bid to bond and create a deeper relationship with her dad began making trips to the town where I lived. Her father, who for reasons best known to him back then, had moved from the city where his family lived to the town […]
I saw a movie trailer a couple of months ago. I was excited… A new romcom on the way.
I put it in my calendar and I waited.
Today is showed up on Prime Video and I was ready. I got all my evening chores done and I sat down for a treat. Only thing is, it wasn’t a treat.
The movie ‘Maintenance Required’ follows Charlie, a mechanic defending her late father’s garage from a rival shop, unaware that her online crush is the man behind it.
The performance was weak and there was no chemistry.I found myself cringing way too many times.
It was failed execution of a shot at remaking Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s ‘You got Mail’. I was a bit disappointed in the male lead, played by Jacob Scipio. I expected better from him, especially after seeing his performance before in Bad Boys for life alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.
I would give it a 2 out of 5 stars…
When will they resume making Romcoms like they used to?
Yesterday I found myself yearning for a good old romcom and I spent an hour and forty five minutes satisfying that yearning with Mrs.Winterbourne (1996).
I want to see something good like the old ones but I want something I can experience for the first time.
Someone tell them movie makers… I’m just a girl, sending a message…Asking them to bring it back like it used to be.
If you are a Downton Abbey fan like me then you must have been pretty excited to finally get to see ‘The Grand Finale’. It premiered on the 12th of September.
We see Lord Grantham make a difficult decision; handing over the leadership of Downton Abbey to Lady Mary.
The two hour movie takes us through a lot of dramatic events and changes for the entire family. Somehow, everyone seems to be around in the for this final chapter,…except The Dowager Countess of Grantham of course.
I really missed the Dowager’s character. This was played by Maggie Smith. She passed away on the 27th day of September 2024. The movie was actually dedicated to her ‘loving memory’.
For a farewell, it was very well put together.
But is this really the Finale? A part of me hopes for more.
What becomes of Lady Mary? Will she be happy? Will she be lonely? Will the company of her two children be enough for her? Will she find love again? Or will she be too busy running the estate?
Whatever happens, I hope she excells at the new responsibility of Mistress of Downton Abbey.
It was one of those nights, I decided to give tiktok some minutes of my time before going to bed.
You see, I built my tiktok ‘for you’ page brick by brick, so I get excited when I go there because; I’m going to definitely see a few standup comedy videos…Sebastian Maniscalco will be in atleast one, I’m going to see cats being naughty, then I’m going to see a cute guy dance, maybe Chris Brown. The one thing that’s definitely going to show up more than others is something booktok related.
Booktok is a community on tiktok where you watch videos that give reviews, recommendations, reactions, and have discussions about books.
So, as I scrolled and flipped last night, I saw a video post by Lili Reinhart. I froze, and then I watched it again just to be sure. She will be playing the role of Olive Smith in the Television adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s The love Hypothesis.
Typical me, I jumped on the search platforms online to see the full cast. I found out Tom Bateman will be playing Dr. Adam Carlsen. I think it’s a good cast. Fans seem to be divided though. More than half of the readers had hoped Adam Driver would be cast if ever the book became a movie.
The Love Hypothesis is a STEM themed funny, nerdy and heartwarming romance novel. If this is your kind of thing and you want to read it before it hits the screens, now is the time.
The release date is not announced yet but filming has begun and is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, MRC, and Bisous Pictures.
I think I might browse that book again while I wait
Movies are made for fans and I get really excited when I read comments where fans are really invested in a movie.
I slept too early last night and so around 3am I found myself awake. I contemplated journaling the last novel I read for a booktok post but I decided on a movie instead.
I settled for Picture This, a British Romantic comedy released on Amazon Prime Video in March 2025.
When I was done, In my usual way, I went online to see what people were saying about it.
I had a good laugh…majority of the comments were on about how it felt like the couple in the movie was cheating on their actual partners… Anthony and Tessa.
Long story short, the couple in the movie is played by:
Hero Fiennes Tiffin: he’s grown on fans over the years from his performance as Hardin in the After Series. Tessa is the love of his life in this series and it feels weird to see him with someone else.
Simone Ashley: she captured hearts in her fascinating performance as Kate in the second season of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series; The Viscount Who Loved Me. She marries Anthony and later falls in love him.
They did really well with “cheating on their actual partners”.
I loved the film, it’s a simple feel-good film. I’m glad I picked it to pass time. I would recommend it.
I started writing this piece on the 30th of October 2021. Thank God for WordPress and it’s ability to leave your drafts for you till you need them or you don’t.
The reason I started in the first place is explained in one line above as the subject. It happened that for a certain period of time, everywhere I turned, there was a movie showing, with this one guy in it. My son likes him. He called him only by one name, no matter how many times I told him his real name, Channing Tatum was always going to be Tyler to him. We were hooked on the movie ‘Step Up’ and it’s swquels at that time.
Well, it’s three years since that happened and my son is older now and so the ‘Tyler’ is now very much Channing Tatum.
I think he is a good actor. I also think he is drawn to characters where he often has to dance, somehow… Yeah, it is in his blood.
Tatum can play just about any role; a Veteran/Policeman, a lover, a male stripper, a street fighter and many more. He gets into character like he was born that way.
I recently saw two of his latest movies; Fly me to the moon and Blink Twice.
I loved Fly me to the Moon and was excited about the telling of the Apollo 11 mission from a “let’s fake a moon landing to show the world in case the main landing fails” angle.
As for Blink Twice, hmmmmmm. I’m still in shock. Unbelievable. This is a psychological thriller. In the movie, we see how social media can create idol worship, a view on anti-capitalism, horror, thrill and shock. I’m not sure what to make of it.
In a nutshell, the movie clearly intended to show how far people can go to feel powerful. My cousin Ngodoo says they took it too far. I laughed and still laugh whenever I remember her remark. That movie stayed with me for quite some time.
For Tatum, I can only say, he was so much in character and I’m pretty scared, it was so real.
I planned to schedule this to drop on the 30th of October 2024, just to be cute…but I changed my mind.
“You are just a funny woman”, my husband said as he laughed at me. You could see so much amusement in his eyes. He was really amused.
It’s not like I actually said something funny, I only stated a fact.
“I think Tyler Perry tried to please us with a happy ending in his new movie but it’s still just another sad story”…that’s what I said.
I love Tyler Perry, I think he is a very talented and ambitious man. He has good looks too and I love good eye candy.
I just don’t feel particularly excited when I watch some of his movies. The endings usually leave me quite low. So when his new movie ‘Divorce in the Black’ was recommended by a colleague, I didn’t hesitate to give it a try. The motivation was what he said as he recommended it, he said “You will love it, it ended well for the woman”.
I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but “ended well” for him still feels sad to me.
It actually did end a tad better than the others though.
At the end of the movie, I realized I had zoomed in on Rona and Jim. Somehow, the couple was best friends with the main couple of the movie. What drew me to them was the way they addressed the issue(s) that came up in their marriage.
It’s two days since I saw the movie and I woke up with thoughts of Rona and Jim… I think Tyler can write a good and happy story about this couple based on the conflict they had in the movie ‘Divorce in the Black’… after all, we never really saw how or if it was properly resolved.
Taylor Polidore and Shannon Wallace as Rona and Jim
I planned to see it as soon as I got the notification but I couldn’t make the time. As soon as I woke up this morning, I got some pop up news on my phone from different blogs and sites I had subscribed to.
I saw different headlines for reviews… I refused to read them. I wanted to see it for myself first. To decide for myself.
Two headlines caught my attention though… The first one was the exact same title I had planned to use for my post-movie review… The big differences between the book and the movie; The Idea of You.
The second one got me thinking a lot and wondering if I agreed with the poster… It read “The Idea of You is basically about bad parenting“. Right now, I don’t agree.
Today I paused everything in the middle of the day and gave a hundred and ten minutes to the movie.
I’m not going to juxtapose the book with the movie. It would not be fair to the movie.
Standing alone, It was a lovely movie.
I loved the boy band nostalgia I felt with all of August Moon’s performances. The memories of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and others. The songs… The songs were and are beautiful… I got goose bumps when they performed Closer at Coachella.
I loved the choice of characters for the roles of Solene and Hayes. They had great chemistry.
I love that he was still singing about her, 5 years after they said goodbye.
