Company

Three days ago,  I wrote about overlooking the things around us that make us happy. It was the first post in my 10 Days of Happiness series, although I didn’t want to come right out and name it that. Instead, I titled it In Plain Sight, writing about the things that make us happy but that we often fail to notice.

Yesterday, on day two, I wrote in Solitude, about finding happiness in being by myself, enjoying my own presence and my own company.

Today, I want to write about another kind of happiness: the happiness we get from the people around us.

Friends, family, and the people we sometimes don’t appreciate enough. We may not always realise it, but these people make life nicer, easier, and happier for us.

They are the people around whom we laugh freely. People whose presence we enjoy without having to make an effort. People we can sit with, sometimes without saying anything at all, and still feel better, simply because they are there.

I have a number of people around me who make me feel this way. And as I try to be intentional about happiness over these few days, I want to appreciate them. I want to acknowledge that even if I don’t say it enough, I am happy to have people like them in my life.

I guess sometimes, happiness is not about what we have or what we achieve… but simply about who we have around us.

I think having people who make life feel a little lighter, and taking the time to appreciate them, is another kind of happiness worth paying attention to.

I've added a few photos of moments when  company made me happy
