Deserved

I enjoy football, but I am not one to rearrange my entire life because my favorite team has a match.

I began loving and watching football when I was 18 years old. I would go to games and competitions to cheer on my boyfriend, now my husband. He loves football and could play really well that he was named Ronaldo, after Ronaldo de Lima

Gradually, I took this interest wider to the screen. The first time ever that I followed and enjoyed a football tournament was in 2004, it was the Africa Cup of Nations  that took place in Tunisia.

Currently, I love the English Premier League and I am a supporter of the Arsenal Football club  in the English Premier League. I also like and admire several footballers all over the world. Some for their talents and skills, some for the way they look and some for both.

One particular player I like is Harry Kane. He is an interesting player to follow, especially because of his journey from Tottenham to Bayern Munich and his record as England’s leading goalscorer. But another thing that draws him to me is his personal life… He’s a simple and private family man, married to his childhood friend, has four children with her and keeps them separate and safe from his public life.

Last night, as we waited for the Ballon d’Or – a prestigious award given to a deserving footballer by France Football (A French Football magazine), my husband told me he was rooting for Harry Kane. I didn’t tell him who I was rooting for. I was afraid to jinx it.

Kane was nominated along with a other players including Kylian Mbappé (who finished second), Lamine Yamal (finished third), Erling Haaland and others.

Kane won. And I was happy. He deserves it.

Some of Kanes achievements:

  • Premier League Golden Boot (2015–16, 2016–17)
  • FIFA World Cup Golden Boot (2018)
  • England’s all-time leading goalscorer
  • Tottenham Hotspur’s record goalscorer
