I don’t mind giving. In fact, I give very easily.
I can buy you a full meal… your own plate, your own drink, everything complete, just so you can enjoy it fully… But what I don’t want, is to have you still wanting from mine.
It’s not really about the food, It’s about space and boundaries… It’s about the need to have something that is just mine… untouched, uninterrupted and respected.
It took me a while but I think I have realized that generosity does not mean full access.
It does not mean that because I give, everything I have is automatically shared.
It also does not mean I should lose the small, personal moments that help me feel like myself. I used to feel bad and selfish but I have convinced myself that I can be kind, be thoughtful and provide, and still say, gently but firmly: “This part is mine.”
I have convinced myself that there is nothing selfish about wanting to enjoy a meal in peace and there is nothing wrong with protecting the small things that bring me comfort.

True, correct, and necessary, Mimi.

Very generous of you, Mimi! 😍 To me, it’s correct to limit donations.

So very true. Gifts should be freely given, not taken off our plates
