I’ve found myself awake from 2am to 5:30am every day for the past four nights.
The first night was hard because I concentrated on falling back to sleep so much that I got frustrated. I got up and took a walk around the house for little or no reason; to the water dispenser for a drink of water, to the front and back doors to check if they were properly shut, to my son’s side to check if he was properly covered… I just kept myself busy. I didn’t know what to do.
On the second night, from the very moment I found myself awake, I decided not to fight it. I pulled up my tablet and started an Advent devotion on my youversion Bible and then I read a little more from Isaiah 30 and other scripture.
Next, I caught up on one of my abandoned summer reads ‘Meet me at the Lake’s by Carley Fortune.
When the moment came, my eye lids shut on their own.
On the third night I repeated the same actions from the previous night.
It’s 4:38 on night four. I’m all caught up with my Advent plan and my WordPress notifications too.
My eyes may shut soon. I’m sure about this.
I’m not sure why this is happening but I love my night sleep and I miss it…plus I kept showing up late to work on the mornings after.
It’s Saturday now and I can sleep in but I really hope this insomnia goes away before the new week.
Any suggestions on what I may do or not do to help?

oh dear: that’s tough: two or more nights in a row; a few suggestions: stay clear of coffee after 8, go to bed at the usual time, but spend less than 10 minutes on the screen, dwell upon a favourite passage of scripture but not for long, then slowly let go of all thoughts, let go then allow yourself to drift off —

Okay thank you John.
I will try your recommendations step by step tonight and give a feedback

please do; it’s important not to go to bed in an agitated state: start winding down before you retire —

Now you make me wonder… something has had me agitated for a few days. Could it be that?
I got a horrible disappointment on Tuesday

yes, it well could be; I think with disappointment, it’s good to acknowledge it, to accept how you feel about it — then to let go.

Thank you John. I will bring an update

I wouldn’t worry so much, it’s just a phase and it will pass. Just read a book when you find yourself awake, don’t worry so much about it. You will be fine after a few days.

Oh, I’m not much help. It’s the middle of the night and I’m wide awake. My best advice is what you already know. Get your rest, minimize screen time, etc, etc. Hang in there

Thank you very much Brian.

Hang in there. The one thing I know, the bigger deal I make of not sleeping, the worse it gets. Kind of crazy.

I’m beginning to think the same

I hope you get over this soon. I have occasional nights like this (the same timescale as you describe) I usually lie hoping for a while then get up and start doing this with comments.
