The test of time (I)

Who are your favorite artists?

For the purpose of this post, I will narrow my artists to Television/Film Actors.

In her blog post on National Dog Day, Beth talked about the movie ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ starring Al Pacino.

I had not seen the movie. I made a note to do so and I did. I was not surprised by his performance. He has always been outstanding.

I have seen most of his movies… The Godfather, Scarface, Any Given Sunday, Oceans Thirteen and the lot.  I think he is an amazing actor, time and age has got nothing on his talent. He is a talented artist.

Pacino

I love artists that never lose their spark even after as they age.

I have a long list of favourites and I have a short list of a few worth mentioning.

Andy Garcia. Amazing from the day he got me in ‘When a man loves a woman’ and he’s still sparkling today in ‘Father of the Bride’ and ‘Book Club: The Next Chapter’.

Garcia

Julianne Moore is another one worth mentioning. I love how she fits into almost any role effortlessly. One of my favorites of hers is Laws of attraction with Brosnan. She was amazing in ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’.

Moore

Collin Firth… what a talented actor. I never get enough of him. Whether it’s a Western film, Romcom or Thriller, Firth delivers.

From The Bridger Jones’s stories to to Mamma Mia and to Kingsman, I’ve loved every work of his.

Firth

I think I will make another list.

Braid for love

My braided bread

I got the following quote off of a post by Beth;

“my grandmother always made challah for Shabbat and dropped it off at our house.

she said braided bread was a symbol of love because it’s like arms interlocking.”

…and I decided I wanted to braid some bread too.

And so I did. I made enough for at least 4 families.

It felt really good.

Random thoughts

Optimists will say; “look on the brighter side”.

Well, that’s what I’ve been doing lately

Through the tough things I’ve found myself in lately, I’ve told myself…how I come out is what’s important.

What am I learning from every ‘this’?

I’ll definitely get through…but I must grow as well.

Tables and mirrors

No one knew I was there.

I had arrived too early and so I reclined my seat and tried to meditate. I couldn’t.

So I let my thoughts wander.

Then I heard them, first the voices of the people and their feet…and then the sound of the engine as the car stopped…right behind mine.

I looked up at my rear view mirror and there it was, everything I could hear was available in pictures. It was like I was viewing a movie…made for me alone.

I watched in awe.

Like puppets, they bowed and sang his praises.

Just a few months ago, he walked these same streets and no one even said a hello to him.

Today…different story… The tables turned.

What can I say? The oracle picked him.

Once is enough

“I make that one copy and I end up being that girl that makes copies…and the worst thing is, I like making copies”…

…This was Pam trying to make sure she wasn’t tagged a copier girl in the new company. After all, she had asked to be in sales.

I’ve told myself a hundred times…I’m such a Pam Beesly.

It’s sad being a Pam Beesly when the  world thinks kindness is foolishness and/or stupidity.

I don’t believe that though…That’s what’s important

Roses and thorns

After successfully sketching The cup , I had a thought to share and decided to sketch the image of the thought myself.

My artist friend, Terwase loved it and decided to draw and send a professional version of the piece to me.

I loved it. It was a better expression of my thoughts.

She also found an old version she had sketched some time ago.

Lost day

I’ve learned to love the alone time that I get on some Mondays and Fridays between 4pm and 5pm.

On those days, I usually pick my son up from school around 5:10pm…and so, when most of my colleagues leave at the close of work (4pm), I sit back and enjoy the quiet. Sometimes I head to Netflix and sometimes I read…but most times I draft stuff in my notebook or WordPress.

Yesterday I just couldn’t wait. I had arranged my new notebook and my pens on my desk and just when my colleagues began to pack up and leave, my phone rang.

It was my son’s school. A million things ran through my mind in a second. I have a bad habit of imagining the worst first before calling myself to order.

I picked up. It was the Administrative Officer…she’s also a friend. We exchanged pleasantries and then she said “SonTer is still in school”.

I wondered what she meant by that.

“Yeah, it’s Monday” I said.

“Nope, it’s Tuesday”.

That’s when it hit me.

It was really Tuesday.

There had been a national holiday on Monday and we had stayed home. Stepping out on Tuesday morning actually felt like Monday…

I drove like a maniac, sweating all over. School had closed since 1:40pm.

I got to his school and ran to him, I hugged him and didn’t want to let go.

What he said next made me smile; “Mommy, I know you thought today was Monday, right? I did too, I even packed my books for Monday classes too”.

This boy just warms my heart.

He told me he was very hungry and I told him I had that covered. We went and got him his favorite chicken burger and all became well with the world.
