Current Obsession

It’s always one thing or the other with me.

Yes

At any point in my life, I’m mildly obsessed about something.

It may be for a short period like a day or a week…sometimes it can go on for months.

There’s always something I feel very strongly about.

It could be a book, a song, a person, a sermon… anything

This week? It’s between Luke Grimes and Yellowstone.

Luke Grimes plays the role of Kayce, the last son of John Dutton in the television series ‘Yellowstone’.

I don’t know how he didn’t make an impression when I saw him in American Sniper. Maybe that wasn’t his season in my heart.

With his ruffled up cowboy look, similar to Cory Asbury and Brandon Lake…who have had their fair share of my time, Grimes has managed to capture me with his acting and his music.

I’m currently enjoying his music on Spotify and I have added a few of them to my favorites.

I hope he stays with me for a while, I like the feeling.

A FEW SUGGESTIONS

A few days ago Amaka made fun of me on how very soon I would keep and carry around with me a note book for preparation of SonTer’s secondary school. He will be leaving for boarding school in September and as usual, I wouldn’t want anything left out when the time comes.

I am addicted to planning. I journal, make notes, list out and tag everything necessary. A few days ago I went on my Whatsapp status and shared the idea of making out goals, putting them in writing and putting them up where we could see them and be reminded. I got a few buzzes for guidance with these goals so I decided to begin a series on goals.

I had suggested many classes of goals/plans.

Today I will focus on Spiritual Goals.

I came up with six simple suggestions.

  1. Make a physical list: this is the number one most important part about plans and goals. It give us a checking sheet to go back to and so we can know if we have deviated, on track or doing better than expected. Putting up the write-up serves as a reminder for when we may be busy or weary.
  2. Pick a word from scripture to guide you the entire year: This helps you focus and gives you a sense of direction. That way, your word study and prayer will be directed in a particular area and before long, you will begin to see that area flourish. My word for 2024 is TRUST; scripture backing being Isaiah 30:21.
  3. Pick a Bible study guide and read with someone: This helps with accountability. It is very easy to drop off along the way, but when you study with someone, one can encourage the other when they begin to get distracted or tired. There are lots of online options to study the word with someone even when they are far away. The Youversion app has been helpful for 9 years, I recommend it.
  4. Make choices that will help you study the word: Learn to create alone time. Organize your priorities to suit time with God. Choose places to go and not go. Identify and try to eliminate distractions.
  5. Consider a few bad habits to shed off: this is different for everyone. It could be a number of things. We all know our weaknesses and how it affects our walk with God.
  6. Consider practicing the following; kindness, gratitude, love and empathy. These are just a few of what lies within the scripture:

Matthew 22:36–40

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it:  You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
