Sometimes we wish we had kept some things.
I have a list of those things. Not that I’m crying over spilt milk, but in your pensive moments, you sometimes just think and wonder, how would I feel if I actually still had this item or that item?
One example is a broken cup I once wrote about here in Loved and blessed. My cousin asked me if I still had the pieces and pondered on whether I could have glued them together and kept them as a memento or keepsake. I wish I had. But well, that’s been swept up and thrown in the trash.
There are several other instances, but one that came to mind this morning is a ring my boyfriend gave me when I was 18. He’s now my husband, as I always mention here.
It was a ring with two hearts intertwined. Recently, I started feeling this yearning, this longing to have that ring again. It would have been something to hold on to, something to cherish. Something I wouldn’t have minded giving to my son one day, probably for him to give to his girl, if he’s that kind of person.
So, because of this longing, I went online searching for similar rings. I didn’t find the exact one, but I found something that looked quite like it. And I wear it now.
When I look at it, I tell myself it’s not so different from the one he gave me.
I wonder if he smiles inwardly or simply wonders what made me go down this whole road. I guess sometimes we just feel things, and we don’t even understand why.
Right?

What a lovely way to remember and honor your early connection
